The International Horticultural Exposition
is the highest professional exposition in the world. It is a global organization having more than 25 member organizations of commercial horticultural producers from five continents. It is a kind of special exhibition approved by AIPH (International Association of Horticultural Producers). It was held for the first time in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 1960 and has already had more than 20 expositions. The International Horticultural Exposition will be taken place in Xi'an Chan Ba Ecological District from April to October 2011, marking a highest-level and largest-scale international exhibition in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province and even in the North-western China. Themed as Eternal Peace & Harmony between Nature & Mankind, Nurturing the Future Earth, the expo will last 183 days and cover an area as large as 418 hectares, 188 hectares of which are water area. We'll be expecting over 100 cities and organizations and greater than 12 million tourists from both home and abroad.
The main theme of the expo is Eternal Peace & Harmony between Nature & Mankind, Nurturing the Future Earth while the sub-theme is Harmonious Co-existence between City and Nature. Eternal Peace (Chang An) is the old name of Xi'an in ancient times, which also symbols the peace and prosperity of the nation. The theme reflects human-being's common wish to harmoniously live along with the nature and to utilize and reform the nature on the basis of respecting and protecting it.

The expo is based on a general pattern of "two circles, two axes, and five clusters". "Two circles" refers to the main circle, the core site with majority of the exhibition areas and sight spots, and the sub-circle, the expanded site with expo village, management center, expo apartments and other supporting facilities. "Two Axes" refers to two landscaping axes, north-south as the main axis and west-east as the sub. "Five clusters" means five themed-gardens including Eternal Peace Garden, Innovation Garden, Five-Continent Garden, Science and Technology Garden and Experience Garden.
